Koigu boy: Grey County, Ontario, Canada; Pretty much anything produced by fibre artist Rhichard will be something that endeavours to maximize colour and texture, and that pretty much also sums up the impression one comes away with after meeting the artist himself. A very colourful personality. So is this something of the chicken and egg question? Is the art Rhichard produces an expression of his personality, or does the art that is produced require the artist to be the expression of the art? For Rhichard, artistic expression is equally private and social, and both are absolutely necessary to his well-being. When working on a dye-lot for particularly fine yarns, it's absolutely "do not disturb". When weaving, it's all about the music that needs to accompany the rhythm of the loom. But without the passionate engagement with his clients, the purpose for the art is not enough in itself. For Rhichard, artistic expression must embrace the sum of the experience, not the product of the experience.
